Why Newcastle Owners Choose a Valuer Who Knows the Hunter

The difference between a valuer who understands how Hunter businesses trade and a template report written for nowhere in particular

Certified Valuers Working Across the Hunter

A valuer who knows how businesses in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Valley change hands, how Revenue NSW deals with transfer duty, landholder duty and payroll tax, and what NSW courts expect of an expert, available by video call or phone wherever you are in the region.

Indicative From A$799; Certified Reports From Seven Business Days

The Indicative report starts from A$799 and is for internal decision-making. You see the price and the steps before you sign anything, and once your information is in, certified Summary and Detailed reports follow from seven business days.

Signed by a Named, Certified Valuer

Each certified report bears the signature of a credentialed valuer and is set out the way the ATO, ASIC, the courts and Australian banks expect.

One Report Type per Purpose, Named on the First Call

A sale, an ATO matter, financial reporting and an SMSF loan each fit one of the three report types. We say which on the first call, and we do not push you towards the most expensive.

A Closing Call That Explains the Figure

We go through which approaches were used, what was adjusted and how the results were weighed, so you can explain the figure to a co-owner, a buyer or your bank.

Prepared for the ATO and Revenue NSW

Written under APES 225 and the ATO's market valuation guidelines, and laid out to stand up to review by the ATO, Revenue NSW and your auditor.

Choose the Service That Matches Your Purpose

Every service sits on one of the three report types. Start from the event that prompted the valuation; who will rely on the figure then sets how deep the report goes.

Frequently Asked Questions for a Business Valuation

A reasoned opinion, signed and dated, of what a business or a holding of its shares is worth, reached by testing the income, market and asset approaches against each other and reconciling them into a conclusion the valuer can support.
It is if someone will test the figure, whether that is the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Federal Circuit and Family Court, the ATO, Revenue NSW, a lender or the expert acting for the other side. When the figure is only for your own planning, an Indicative report is enough; it is for internal decision-making and is not a certified opinion for third parties.
Frequently. A fee incurred for an income-producing purpose is generally deductible, and one connected with a CGT event may be added to the cost base instead. Confirm the treatment for your circumstances with your tax adviser.
Most often it is the right fit when outsiders will read the number without contesting it in court: selling the business, admitting a partner, an employee share plan, a loan application or an SMSF audit.
A program can apply a formula. It cannot judge how the earnings should be normalised, how much risk to price in or which comparable sales are relevant, and no bank or court will rely on an unsigned printout. A person prepares every report we issue, and every certified report carries a certified valuer's signature.
Usually a Detailed report. The Supreme Court of New South Wales, which sits in Sydney, and the District Court, which sits in the Newcastle courthouse on Hunter Street, both apply the court's expert evidence rules and the Expert Witness Code of Conduct, and family law matters at the Federal Circuit and Family Court registry on Bolton Street follow that court's own rules for experts. Each expects the full reasoning in writing. If a matter looks likely to settle at mediation, a Summary report may be enough, and we say so on the first call; smaller matters before NCAT, which has a Newcastle registry, are scoped case by case.
It supports whatever prompted it: agreeing a sale price, resolving a dispute, answering the ATO or Revenue NSW, giving your auditor a fair value, or setting terms with a co-owner or investor.
In Australia the principal standard is APES 225 Valuation Services. Our reports also follow the International Valuation Standards, which matter when a reader compares the work with practice overseas, and any figure with a tax outcome follows the ATO's market valuation guidelines.
Reports are signed by Andrew Mackson, our Managing Partner, a CFA charterholder who also holds the ABV and CBV designations and has more than 15 years of valuation, transaction and expert evidence work. A certified report is never released without a certified valuer's signature.
A valuation opinion prepared under APES 225 and signed by a credentialed valuer. It records why the value was needed, the evidence used, every adjustment and the reasoning, so a court, the ATO, a bank or the other party can rely on it.
We act for owners across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Cessnock and the wider Hunter, from the Newcastle CBD and Charlestown to Beresfield and the Upper Hunter. Consultations run by video call through the booking link or by phone, and we take on engagements elsewhere in Australia the same way.

"A cheap number that collapses under questioning costs far more than it saved. What a Hunter owner is paying for is a signed opinion that still holds after a regulator, a court or the other side has been through it."
